woohooligan NEW! Check out our best laughs from 2016!
Happy St. Patrick's Day, Hooligans! Did you get drunk? Did you wake up in jail or with unexpected tatoos? No? Damn... well better luck next year! :D

I knew I couldn't be the first person to make the Groot/Pokemon connection, so I searched online... oddly enough, all I found were a few photo memes and pictures of Rocket and Groot as a Zigzagoon and a Sudowoodo. On another note, you might think Yondu is apt to use his arrow on Groot after the end of this comic, but I'm not sure it would be too effective. After all, he did survive being torn apart by the wreck of the Dark Aster. He's one tough dude!

Groot really made the film for me. Sure, I would have enjoyed the film without him, but it just wouldn't have been very memorable... Think about it. Of all the scenes in the film, what are the ones you remember most? Groot drinking from the fountain and getting his arms cut off. Groot beating up the goon in the Kyln. Groot stealing the battery for Rocket's prison escape plan and then fighting the guards. Groot eating part of his own shoulder during a serious debate about their suicide mission. Groot lighting up the Dark Astor. Groot smiling after taking out a squad of Ronan's men. Groot saving everyone when the Dark Aster crashed... and finally, Groot yawning and dancing in the flower pot. That's what I'm talking about. Remove all of those memorable scenes with Groot, and even with Rocket still in the film, it's just another generic sci-fi action flick.

This week instead of a bonus panel or an alternate ending, I continued this story with another complete full-color, 4-panel comic like this one.

If you've previously supported Woohooligan by voting on TWC to see those alternate endings, I want to say thank you!

A week or two ago I posted all of those previous bonus panels and alternate endings to our new Patreon page. Starting today, most new bonus features will be Patreon exclusives. There may be one or two monthly voting incentives, but not every week. If you're already a patron, you can see the patron-only bonus comic here.

Would you buy a cup of coffee for a friend because he's awesome? How much is more Woohooligan woth to you? Is less than the cost of a cup of coffee every month within your budget?

I started this crazy ride in '06, so it's been almost nine years now with two notable breaks in '08 and last year due to those life complications we all have. You know, life is what happens when we're busy making other plans. The truth is I have to balance my love for the comics with the reality that we all have bills, and every hour I spend making comics is an hour I don't bill $80 for software engineering. So let me ask you awesome hooligans this: if you had the choice between spending roughly eight hours making these two comics for everyone to have for free, or that same eight hours earning $640 that you need to buy groceries and repair your house, which would you choose? It's hard to imagine turning down that $640 isn't it? You could afford a $3 cup of coffee though, right?

So that's where I'm at. Each strip basically costs me somewhere around $300 to make and they're not getting less expensive, so for me to make more of them, they have to pull some weight. Otherwise, I may not have much choice but to stop making them so I can take care of my family. I'd much rather keep making these comics for you awesome people! I love doing this and I want to keep doing it.

I know what you're thinking, "but Sam! I like you and all, but I can't afford $300 for one of your comics! That's insane!" Could you buy me a cup of coffee? Good news! That cup of coffee is all I'm asking. There are thousands of people reading Woohooligan every month and right now my goal is just to reach $50 per strip and then I'll be making a lot more comics. So between you and a small handful of other readers, each pitching in for a cup of coffee, we'll reach that goal real quick! Every bit helps, even if it's just a dollar.

You can be our Groot. If you want to help make sure Woohooligan sticks around for a long time to come, there are several things you can do:
  • Books: Thanks to our Kickstarter backers, we now have three brand-new PDF ebooks in our new store, including lots of alternate endings and other bonus features! I didn't want to resort to degrading the quality of the books or adding watermarks on everything, so those three ebooks are high-resolution, print-ready PDFs, that's why they're $2.99 instead of a dollar. As a result they take up a fair amount of space and that storage will cost $15/mo through our shopping-cart provider. I'm doing this because I want these books to be the best quality I can give you.

    Buy the Books!
  • Patreon: Due to space constraints (see above), not all of the comics and alternate endings made it into our first three ebooks. If you like all of our stuff and you'd like to see all of our alternate endings and other bonus material, you can get all of that with a small monthly donation on our new Patreon page! In fact, the Dilithium Membership is just a dollar more than all three books and it gets you all three books immediately PLUS access to our super-secret vault of all the alternate endings and bonus features, including content that didn't make it into the books and any new bonus content I make from now on! If you're not happy with your monthly contribution, you can reduce your pledge or cancel it at any time. (Incidentally, our Patreon page is just $3 away from covering our monthly shopping-cart fees.)

  • Affiliate: As a small thank-you for reading and sharing Woohooligan, I'm offering an affiliate bonus. A number of years ago I tried to do this on my own and ... well it was at best embarassing. ;P So this time I chose a cart provider who have an affiliate system that works. What I'm offering is a 30% bonus on ebooks and 20% on print. So if you enjoy Woohooligan and you have a blog or comic with decent traffic, that means for each of your readers who purchses one of our ebooks at $2.99, you'll get $0.90, or $3.20 for the print edition. That's nearly twice as much as PayPal gets from that same sale. That's how much I appreciate your reading, enjoying, and sharing Woohooligan!

  • Share: If for some reason you can't do any of those other things, can you share Woohooligan with your friends? Sharing Woohooligan on Facebook or Twitter is awesome! Or go hog wild and write a blog!

Thanks and stay awesome, Hooligans!

Haha - Awesome. I actually thought of a pokeball myself when I first saw the film. I like your version better than the one in my head!

woohooligan Thanks, Dick! :D

Haha! So was he fully pokevolved or is there an even bigger Groot?
woohooligan Mar 23, 2015
woohooligan Good question! I'd have to think at full evolution he'd be gigantic! Either like a redwood tree or maybe even larger, like a grove of Aspen trees like Pando.
